Rice Incentive Grant A Boost To Duck Food Supplies, Public Hunting
Conservation and public duck hunting opportunities are getting a boost thanks to a $2.1 million grant to the Arkansas Waterfowl Rice Incentive Enhancement Conservation Program.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission announced the grant, which will be distributed over the next three years, and touted it as a way to incentivize private land owners to take steps to maximize waterfowl food supplies and provide access to more hunting fields next season.
The $2.1 million comes from the National Resources Conservation Service's Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program.
The program encourages landowners to participate by foregoing fall tillage and instead flood fields, increasing available food supplies for ducks. A draw format would expand public hunting opportunities on these fields.
